Alternate reality--Aurasma

Hello All!

We finally finished our Historical Face book posts!  We honored Black History Month, with doing research on famous African Americans that have made a contribution to society.

We had the wide gambit of people: Sport stars, astronauts, Entertainers, Writers, Civil Rights activists, Revolutionary War heroes, and high ranking military and government officials.

After we finished out "Facebook" posts, we constructed an "alternative Reality" bulletin board. Instead of just seeing a piece of paper just hanging on the wall, you can use your iPhone, tablet, iPad, or Android phone to see a video about the person.

This is possible with using the Aurasma app.  It is relatively easy to use and the kids love their board coming to life!  Plus, the app is FREE!

To see our board come to life, enter the main door of the school, you will find this board on your right!

Here are the directions:
How do I see the special presentation???

Density Lab

Today my class went into the Science lab for a Density experiment!

That had a great time and many of them made good predictions about the outcome of the test.

Random Acts of Kindness!

Today was Random Acts of Kindness Day!

My students wrote cards for a senior retirement home. They wrote from their hearts and they did a great job!

Using sidewalk chalk, my class also wrote inspirational messages on the sidewalk in front of the school. This was a secret for most of the other students in school. When they walked out to go to the buses, they read the messages and smiled!

Reading buddies!

Reading Buddies... The 4th grade students are now working with the Kindergarteners!

Once a week, our class goes into the Kindergarten classroom and we partner up with a Kindergartener. As my class is reading, they are helping the younger students find and locate sight words, asking comprehension questions, and also working on our speed and expression while reading.

Both classes seem to love this time!

Science lab: Mass

Today the 4th grade went to the science lab for experiments utilizing engineering and mass. Using a piece of foil, they had to design a "boat" that they felt would hold the most mass.

After they designed their boats, they placed the boats into the water and then, one at a time, places a penny onto the boat.

The winner was the student who's boat could hold the most mass, or pennies!

We had a few boats that held over 150 pennies!  We even had one that held over 239 pennies!  This was an awesome lab, and the students had a blast doing it!
